Burns & Wound Care

Burn and wound care has been transformed by skin substitutes and bioengineered tissues. The session covers acute burn resuscitation (Parkland and Brooke formulae), cultured epithelial autografts (Epicel, ReCell), bioengineered skin substitutes (Integra, NovoSorb BTM, Permacol), negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT), chronic wound management (diabetic foot ulcers, venous ulcers, pressure injuries), and inhalation injury management. Discussion addresses the rule of 9s and Lund-Browder accuracy, burn rehabilitation including scar management, multidisciplinary burn-centre model, telehealth in burn triage, paediatric burn management, stem cells and growth factors in wound healing, and emerging 3D-bioprinted skin grafts.
