ICU & Critical Care
Surgical ICU care addresses the sickest perioperative patients with multiple recent trial-driven changes. The session covers post-operative sepsis (Surviving Sepsis Campaign 2024 update), ARDS and lung-protective ventilation, mechanical ventilation modes (APRV, BiPAP, conventional), ECMO indications (VV for ARDS, VA for cardiogenic shock, EOLIA reanalysis), delirium prevention (post-PADIS 2024 update), and palliative care in surgical ICU. Discussion addresses post-cardiotomy ECMO, post-transplant ICU care, fluid management, multidisciplinary vs traditional ICU models, family-centred care, and emerging biomarkers for early sepsis detection.
