Maxillofacial Surgery
OMFS spans trauma to orthognathic surgery with growing computer-assisted planning. The session covers orthognathic surgery (Le Fort I, BSSO, genioplasty) and virtual surgical planning, mandibular fracture management, facial-trauma reconstruction (3D-printed patient-specific implants), dental implants in irradiated bone, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) surgery (arthrocentesis, total joint replacement), and facial cosmetic surgery overlap with plastics. Discussion addresses cleft lip and palate management, sleep surgery (mandibular advancement, hyoid suspension), distraction osteogenesis vs single-stage orthognathic, virtual treatment planning workflows, paediatric OMFS, and emerging biomaterial-based bone regeneration.
